Six virtual office Christmas party ideas that your workplace community will love

2020 – what an unforgettable year it has been. As a result of the ongoing pandemic, most businesses will be having to forgo the frills of the normal Christmas party get together and instead opt for a virtual event. But, how do you plan a virtual office Christmas party that your workplace community are actually excited about? We’ve got some ideas up our sleeves.

Here are some of our ideas for an engaging virtual Christmas party that your attendees will love and remember!

Our memorable virtual office Christmas party ideas:

Deliver a hamper to all attendees

One of the downsides of a virtual event is that you miss out on the tangible aspects, from face-to-face interactions with others to creaking of the dance floor to the sparking of the disco ball. By delivering a hamper of goodies to attendees, which could include drinks and nibbles to enjoy during the event, means that everyone gets to enjoy something tangible and it also shows that you’re willing to go the extra mile to make sure they have a great time.

A cocktail class

A great way to get everyone in the party mood (because who doesn’t like a cocktail?) is to throw a virtual cocktail class. All you would need to do is find a mixologist and stream the class so people can make their cocktails in their own homes. Mixology Events can help you pull this all off. They offer cocktail making packs that include all of the ingredients and tools attendees will need that can make up to five cocktails and the classes are delivered over Zoom.

Two Truths and a Lie

Two truths and a lie is a great option for an icebreaker and it’s a great way to find more about each other. The players need to tell three statements about themselves, with two being truthful and one being false, and the others have to guess which one is the lie. A good truth to pick will sound like something you usually wouldn’t do – but have actually done. As you can imagine, this is a great way to find out some unusual and funny things that your peers have done and is a great way to get people in the party spirit. We played this at District’s first virtual social and it was epic!

A virtual murder mystery

An idea for something more unique for your virtual office Christmas party is a virtual murder mystery. This is a great team-building activity which is guaranteed to deliver lots of laughs and enjoyment. Masters of Mystery offer a virtual Christmas-themed murder mystery pack which includes everything you’ll need to host an exciting event. The downloadable kit includes a guide for the host, character booklets, invitations, Ebeneezer Scrooge audio files, an evidence pack and a game ballot.

Office Christmas party in a box

If you want a very simple, but effective option you could send your attendees a box of delicious Christmas food that you would typically indulge in at a Christmas party. The Office Christmas party offers just that, so you don’t need to worry about the details. Their standard ‘Christmas in a box’ includes; cheese & charcuterie, hot chocolate baileys bomb, cookie dough cracker and a yule log and includes access to the event via an online portal, including live entertainment and music. They also offer some more daring options such as a virtual escape room!

A tiny campfire

This one is too cute not to mention. Tiny Campfire offers a virtual campfire experience which includes all of the normal traits of a real-life campfire gathering. Once signed up you’ll receive a digital pack containing everything you need to host a killer virtual campfire, including ghost stories, icebreaker games and competitions. Tiny Campfire sayst: “It’s all the fun of a real camp night, with no mosquito repellent required.” It’s a 90-minute completely digital event, but what really puts the cherry on the cake with this one is the little package attendees receive for the event. It contains a tiny campfire kit which includes a tiny campfire-candle, wood matches and even marshmallows for toasting. Ok, this one isn’t so festive, but we think it can be adjusted to fit the theme – inviting attendees to warm around the fire on a frosty Christmas evening. Perhaps you could even send some mulled wine to really set the tone!
